Great! 2 million Hungarians vaccinated
The number of people vaccinated in Hungary has reached two million, according to a message posted on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon.
“Two million vaccinated. Another step forward,” a short animated message said.
The number of vaccinated Hungarians exceed two million today, accounting for over 20 percent of the population, much above the EU’s inoculation rate of around half that, an official of the Prime Minister’s office told a briefing on Tuesday.
Kindergarten and schoolteachers who have registered for the vaccination by March 24 will get the jabs on the first three days of April,
state secretary István György told an online briefing of the operative body responsible for controlling the coronavirus epidemic.
Teachers will be inoculated at 426 points in 101 hospitals with Pfizer vaccines that arrived in Hungary on Tuesday, he said.
Education unions, experts demand protection of workers before school reopening
Before schools reopen, all staff should be vaccinated and completely protected against the coronavirus, trade unions and experts said in a joint statement on Tuesday.
Workers in the education sector and many health-care professionals have raised “concerns and fears” about a recent resolution which states that students and teachers must return to classrooms by April 19, only a few days after teachers receive their first jabs, the statement said.
It added that Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller had regularly warned people not to feel protected from the virus after their first shot because it might take two or three weeks for the immune system to produce an adequate response.
The trade unions and experts asked the government to observe these guidelines and ensure safe working conditions for all staff in the education system.
